Ericsson Baseband 6648, the newest member of Ericsson's RAN computing portfolio, became commercially available in May. As the next generation of LTE and New Radio (NR) basebands, it has three times the capacity of existing Ericsson basebands and is proven to be industry-leading in energy efficiency.
The Ericsson product Baseband 6648 is a natural choice for sites to implement high frequency bands in 5G, as it was developed for 4G and 5G high-capacity sites.
Communications service providers will benefit not only from higher capacity, but also from simplified installation using the new AIR(Antenna Integrated Radio) and 25Gbps interface of radio products.
"With baseband 6648, we are improving our high-performance RAN computing solution so that our customers can increase the capacity and efficiency of their mobile networks, enabling them to deploy 5G anywhere."
Ericsson Baseband 6648 is optimized for all site types and traffic scenarios, supporting 4G, 5G new radios and the Internet of Things (hybrid mode). The downstream maximum throughput is 10-15Gbps, and the upstream maximum throughput is 3Gbps. Specifically: 10Gbps throughput can download a 4K movie in 30 seconds. It also allows about 1,700 movies to be streamed simultaneously. They have successfully deployed the new RAN Compute baseband in their commercial network.
