    No complete chassis replacement is required for already-deployed AMIA subracks. Operators can insert a new AI-accelerated plug-in card directly into the existing AirScale installed base, including both indoor and outdoor modular solutions. This card works alongside the existing controller boards (ASIB or ASIK) and capacity boards (ABIO or ABIL), adding GPU-powered AI computing capacity without replacing the current baseband processing hardware. This is the leanest migration path to Nokia's AI-native RAN platform and preserves all prior capital investment on-site.
  • Stand-alone Accelerated AI-RAN node
    Deploy an extra dedicated AI-RAN processing node that runs alongside your original AirScale baseband system as a single logical base station. This approach is suitable for sites that need to scale up AI-related computing capacity without modifying existing subrack hardware.
  • Cloud-native AI-RAN solution
    Run virtualized RAN functions on general-purpose GPU-powered COTS servers from Nokia's ecosystem partners. This cloud-oriented deployment targets data-center-centric and fully open network environments, running the same anyRAN software as the other two paths.

Modular Indoor Baseband (AMIA chassis system)

The well-known AMIA indoor subrack belongs to this modular baseband family. As shown in Nokia's official architecture, the standard configuration consists of:

  • 1× AMIA Subrack — 3U chassis with backplane, providing high-bandwidth connectivity between plug-in units
  • 1 or 2× ASIB (Common) — in slots C1 and C2, for transport interfaces and centralized processing
  • Up to 6× ABIO (Capacity) — in slots B1 to B6, for baseband processing and optical interfaces with radio units

A newer generation, ASIK + ABIL, is designed for 5G high-capacity scenarios. Cross-generation mixing of ASIB and ASIK boards is not supported. Operators expand processing performance by adding or swapping these plug-in boards rather than replacing the whole unit.

Complementary to indoor AMIA systems, Nokia's compact outdoor baseband series delivers integrated baseband hardware for macro-site and small-cell deployment scenarios.
